In 2002, the Portuguese winery Dão Sul, at the time present at the five most famous demarcated wine regions of its country, decided to move on to a new project beyond its national borders setting up a new company in Brazil.
Established in Vale do São Francisco, the new winery named Vinibrasil has already a vineyard area of 200ha where the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Alicante Bouchet and others have been planted. High quality grapes are the key factor for great wine. Based on this philosophy, there have been made protocols with European universities in order to follow researches in loco and to improve the existent knowledge of winemaking worldwide. Carlos Lucas, Portugal’s Winemaker of the Year in 2007 is in charge of winemaking at Vinibrasil leading a team of Portuguese winemakers.
Our project is new in all aspects: the region, the climate and the latitude (parallel 8). Jancis Robinson created a new category for wines produced in this region, going beyond “New World” wines, and calling them “New Latitude” wines. The wines are recognized by a truly international style and unquestionable quality, with the highest quality standards. The design of the wine labels was developed by a UK-based designer company, following the latest designer trends.
Since the first vintages, the wine has been recognized by several national and international awards. It was the first Brazilian wine ever classified by the Wine Spectator magazine in 2005. In 2008 Rio Sol Assemblage was considered the best Brazilian red-wine at a tasting organized at Expovinis, the most respectable wine fair in Brazil.
Not only our wines have been recognized, but in 2006 Vinibrasil itself received the FINEP award of Innovation and Technology in the category Processes in Brazil, due to its developed works and researches in innovation.
